HOW TO ACE YOUR INTERVIEW
With school wrapping up within the next few weeks, it would be a good idea to prepare for some interviews. Whether it is for a summer internship or your first job out of school, it’s important to be on top of your game.
The interview starts as soon as you walk through the door. In most cases, what you are wearing the second you walk in is already making an impression on the person conducting the interview. Remember: Your first impression is what sets the tone for the whole interview.
Come prepared. Brush up on your facts and try to read up on the company you are interviewing for. A common question asked during interviews is: “Why do you want to work here?” If you know a little bit about the company prior to walking in the door, it will definitely give you the upper hand. Also bring a pen to fill out any paperwork and a notepad to take any notes that you feel will help you in the future. This is not necessary, but it definitely helps! We aren’t robots – people forget sometimes!
Ask plenty of questions. Asking questions shows that you are genuinely interested in the position. Keep in mind that this is also a conversation. They want to know that you can do more than answer a few questions about them. Companies don’t expect you to know everything, so ask away!
Go in there looking sharp. Not all places require a full suit and tie, but it doesn’t hurt. Don’t wear anything that will take away from your personality. Keep with the classics. A crisp white or navy blue shirt by Indian Threads paired with a blazer, a nice necktie, and polished dress shoes.
“Dress how you want to be addressed.”
Let’s be honest…interviews are a little nerve-wrecking. We might not always be able to say the right things during an interview and that is completely fine. Come in prepared, dress to impress and show them what you are made of.
